The New Face of Roots Reggae
Roots Reggae music has a new face. Reemah, hailing from the island of St. Croix, is one of the new Roots Revolutionaries in this time and space encouraging all those that listen with an uplifting and spiritual message. Having always been passionate about stimulating the mind and soul through music, Reemah has been planting the seeds of a divine flame, bringing awareness with each social commentary that is seemingly wrapped in a gritty, unapologetic yet sweetly satisfying package.
As a performer, Reemah has been described as a captivating artist with a striking command and stage presence. Her messages are keen and her lyrics are absolutely brilliant. She is a gifted songwriter who effortlessly combines the depth and essence of Roots Reggae music with a style that she has harnessed and made her own. At times she sings - gracefully easing onto a riddim, and at other times she adamantly dissects a track with lyrics and style.
On July 17, 2012 Reemah's debut album, Check Your Words, was released.
The 13 track EP, heavily produced by Catalyst Mitchell, also features productions by Jalani Horton of Bambu Station and Laurent 'Tippy' Alfred.
Check Your Words has been heralded by Reemah supporters as one of the best reggae albums, delivering a powerful dose of musical healing. On March 3, 2015 Check Your Words was re-released by VPAL, with the addition of a new acoustic track titled 'One Day'.
Most recently, Reemah has pushed forth her sophomore album, Breaking News, in July 2018. This rootical gem of spiritual rousing, balancing, and awakening has been met with an outpouring of support, securing her a spot on the Top 10 Albums on the Global Reggae Charts. Reemah's Breaking News album is, "...an album with absolute appeal; this is an essential piece of true Roots music!", writes Robert Heilman in his review for the online Reggae and Dancehall
magazine Reggae Vibes (click here for full review).
With performances throughout the U.S., Caribbean, South America, the Virgin Islands, Reggae on the River Festival in California, and Europe, Reemah has created an ever-growing fan base and is steadily gaining momentum in the Reggae arena. The year 2018 was monumental in that it saw Reemah touching European soil for the first time with her 'Breaking News Tour' as she graced the stage of some major festivals, including Rastaplas and Irie Vibes Roots Fest. With a few U.S. appearances already under her belt for the new year, Reemah is next scheduled to perform at Bob Fest in Atlanta alongside Jah9 on March 22 and in Oregon on April 20.
Summer 2019 will meet Reemah in Europe for her Give Thanks Everyday Tour. Some major festivals in the lineup are Oland Roots Festival in Sweden, Overjam Festival in Slovenia, Rototom Sunsplash in Spain, and One Love Festival in UK (see more dates here).
